Design and Installation

Evaluation

Every job must be evaluated for the specific codes that apply to the structure, occupancy, and fire hazard level. Proper evaluation is critical to the overall design and cost effectiveness of the sprinkler system. Also integral to the initial evaluation is the water supply to the structure. New installations and retrofits are required to use fire hydrant flow test results that are dated within one year of the building permit date. We can obtain these test results for you if they are not already available.

Inspection & Testing

System Component Testing:

All components of your fire protection system(s) require periodic testing and maintenance to ensure they will operate correctly in a time of need. Inspection testing frequency is largely determined by the type of structure and occupancy, codes, insurance requirements, and even company policy. Annual testing is normally the minimum requirement by code. A more comprehensive 5-year inspection, replacing the normal annual inspection, is also required by code. If you are unsure of your inspection, testing and maintenance obligations give us a call and one of our team members will help you determine the frequency that is right for your facility.
Our team can provide the testing and maintenance required to keep your facility compliant. We use state of the art software to ensure a compliant inspection and to create the necessary reports. Reports are then filed with you and the agencies required by code. We offer inspection & testing services for the following systems:

  • Fire Protection Systems
  • Fire Pumps
  • Standpipe Systems
  • Fire Hydrants (Fire Flow Tests)
  • Backflow Certification

If you are unsure of your inspection and testing obligations, contact AFSI and one of our team members will provide the information about the inspection and testing of your facility.

All components of your Fire Protection System(s) are required to be inspected, tested and certified every five years. This process replaces the annual and is more comprehensive. As with the annual requirement our team provides testing and reports required by NFPA 25, Local Authorities, the state your business resides and requirements your insurance company may have using the same state of the art software to create the necessary reports and issuing them as required.

Fire Hydrant Flow Testing

Fire Flow Tests also known as Hydrant Flow Tests can be performed for several different reasons. Fire Flow Tests are conducted on fire hydrants to determine water availability. There are multiple reasons why a flow test could need to be performed, below is a list of several of those reasons:

  • To determine water availability in planning firefighter activities.
  • To determine water availability for the design of fire sprinkler systems.
  • To determine water availability for the design of domestic water systems.
  • To evaluate development of water main extensions,
  • To evaluate system improvements and replacements.
  • To determine general condition of the water distribution system by detecting closed valves.

Fire flow testing produces accurate water data which can be used for various purposes. Fire Fighting Agencies use this water data for training, planning, and marking hydrants. This water data is also used for water system planning and design. Municipalities also use the water data to simulate high flow conditions, to determine pressure and flow-producing capabilities of the water distribution system and for calibration of hydraulic models.

Advance Fire Systems, Inc. performs a multitude of hydrant flow tests every year for owners, architects, engineers, and for all of the fire system projects we are contracted to design and install. We utilize Monster Hose equipment specifically designed for hydrant testing with pressure gauges calibrated and certified annually. We would be happy to provide a quote for your project needs.
